RULES & REGULATIONS
DUE TO THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC D.O.A 2021 SEASON WILL ONLY BE ONE ROUND
Styles:
Ballet Classical style.
Contemporary Style.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Each style will be judge separately, Classical Contemporary dancers will be judge independently in each category. You can compete in both styles if you wish.
Divisions:
Solos
Duos
Ensembles: Over 3 participants.
Categories:
Rising: Age 8 to 9 years
Junior: Age 10 to 12 yeas
Teen: Age 13 to 15 years
Senior: Age 16 to 19 years
Professional: Age 20 to 25 year
Participants ages are taken into account from date of the contest. When filling out the application form you must provide your age at the time of the competition.
The ages for ensemble pieces will be averaged/combined between the age of all participants. The category of the ensemble will depend on the result of this average.
Evaluation Process
Each competitor will be judged independently in each style.
Videos will be selected and processed by style, division & categories and will be played & judged to the jury and the Competition Board LIVE.
Judges will give each entry marks in five areas:
Interpretation. 20 marks total
Synchronicity. 20 marks total
Technique. 20 marks total
Musicality. 20 marks total
Lines. 20 marks total
TOTAL. 100 marks
Each judge will provide a score based on the average of marks awarded for the five areas above.
The score will be used to calculate the competitor’s final score (between 0 and 100)
The judges’ scores are final and unappealable.
DOA Grand Prix- Highest Diamond scoring dancer
Diamond: 96-100 grade average
Gold: 90-95 grade points average
Silver: 85- 89-grade points average
Bronze: 80-84 grade point average
Note: Any scores under 80 won’t be recognized as a qualifiable score.
Repertoire Information
Please Note: Pointe/demi-pointe work:
Rising: Age 8 to 9 years (Demi-pointe or Pointe)
Junior: Age 10 to 12 yeas (on pointe from age 12)
Classical Repertoire Female & Male Solos: Solos from the classical ballet repertoire (see list below).
Pas De Deux: A pas de deux from the classical ballet repertoire (see list below).
Please note: if your solo/PDD is not on the list, please contact us on info@danceopenamerica.org.
Competitors are advised to choose solos/PDDs that showcase their versatility.
CLASSICAL VARIATIONS LIST
Please note: Free choreography/Variation (neoclassical or classical style) can be submitted as your classical variation. They must comply with the following rules:
-no longer than 3 min.
-based on classical style/steps.
-choreographed with classical music ONLY.
